Emergency plug enables safe working on and around e-cars for rescuers possible

An electric or plug-in vehicle will not turn off if you release the clutch, and you cannot hear the engine running. This is in contrast to a fuel car. The motor only switches off when it is a High impact collision , provided the safety systems works. One care provider cannot determine whether the ‘High Impact effect or kenetic energy’  was sufficient and whether the safety systems actually did work. Moreover, the technology of an electric car is already so advanced that the engine is switched on when the driver takes place in the driver's seat. Often no key or button is needed to turn it on and off. In this situation it is impossible for the care provider to anticipate this.

The victim may unknowingly or consciously press the accelerator pedal while the vehicle is still running. The car will respond immediately and no person will hear this. Because an electrically powered vehicle has an enormous torque, it is almost impossible to lock the wheels. In fact, the situation is only getting more dangerous; the blocking acts like a ski jump. There is therefore a very high chance that an undesirable situation will arise for the care provider, the victim and bystanders; there is a high risk of serious injuries and even death.

Who is the Emergeny Plug for?

The Emergency plug has been marketed to ensure that all disciplines working on the road be able to guarantee own and general safety with an accident with a plug-in car. The additional advantage of the Emergency plug is that it prevents unnecessary damage to the vehicle, which for the owner and insurance companies be a mutual benifit. Below we describe four different scenarios that indicate the situation in which the Emergency plug prevents risks:

Plug it safe!

How does the Emergency plug work?

The Emergency responders who arrives on scene first, places the Emergency plug in the charging connection of the vehicle. The plug makes the car's software think that the car is charging. In every car worldwide, software is regulated that when a car is charging, it may not be able to drive away. Every manufacturer had to build in the same protocol to prevent serious damage to charging stations and the electricity grid.

The Emergency plug is equipped with two different plug types (type 1 & type 2). With this one plug you can therefore block all types of plug-in cars against driving away. Using the Emergency-plus is very easy to handle that no training is required.

Safety First

Emergency responders are taught to first think about their own safety. However, they have also have the characteristic that they prime focus is to wanting help the victim. This sometimes causes a huge impact of making choices with all the frustrations, loss of time, feelings of guilt and excessive risk taking of that. About this unpredictable vehicle behaviour we were very concerned.

Current techniques to mitigate risks

There are currently Road Traffic Accident techniques such as ‘blocking’ an electric car to ensure that it cannot drive away. But because of it large torque this is almost impossible, very time consuming and even dangerous during the process. It is also possible to disconnect the HV battery pack using the service plug so that the car can no longer drive. It however, is by no means always easy to implement by damage, risky because one have to get close to the car and often time consuming for the service plug could be located anywhere in the car. Manufacturers determine themselves the location of the service plug. This one current techniques therefore provide a false sense of security.

The Emergency plug offers a solution

Working safely on and around electric cars is available for emergency responders from now on. Upon arriving at the vehicle immediately insert the emergency plug. By placing the universal emergency plug, the emergency responders or bystanders cannot be knocked over by the unpredictable vehicle behavior of a plug-in car.

By placing this plug in a simple way, one removes this danger for emergency responders or others who are in the vicinity of the vehicle.
